JIPM launched the PM award system in 1964, to “strengthen the improvement of enterprise constitutions and contribute to the development of industry, by promoting the modernization of plant maintenance and the development of plant maintenance technologies.”
The TPM Excellence Awards, in which the results of plants’ TPM activities are judged and honored, have been awarded to some 3600 plants since the awards’ inception. These awards play a valuable role in JIPM’s assessment operations for the development of world industrial sector.
The TPM Excellence Awards are divided into the following categories according to the size of the plants and the performance of the TPM activities.
From 2024 to 2026, applications based on the old system adopted until 2023 will be acceptable.

The Award for World-class TPM Achievement is oepn to plants that have already received the Advanced Special Award or Special Award for TPM Achievement and have developed distinvtice and creative TPM activities and been showing results.

The Advanced Special Award for TPM Achievement is oepn to plants that have already received the Special Award for TPM Achievement and established importatnt items in developing TPM activities and been showing results.

Maintain Stage
The Special Awards for TPM Achievement is open to plants that have already received the Award for Excellence in Consistent TPM Commitment or Award for TPM Excellence (old Category A & Category B) and maintained and enhanced the results achieved at the time of the previous award, and be engaged in distinctive and revolutionary activities.
Development Stage
Maintain Stage
Award for Excellence in Consistent TPM Commitment is open to plants that have already received the Award for TPM Excellence (old Category A & Category B) and maintained and enhanced the results achieced at the time of the precious award, aknd have establishied measures for their maintenance and continuation.
Development Stage
The Award for TPM Excellence is open to plants that have completed infrastructure development for TPM activity with both tangible and intangible achievements obtained through activities based on the eight pillars* of TPM.
※In all award categories, if there is a reason related to the organization and activities of the business unit, the activities based on under the six pillars, excluding the initial management and management indirect pillars are acceptable.

This is a list of the activities and standards that must be met in order to qualify for the Award for TPM Excellence (former Category A or Category B) and the Award for TPM Excellence.
It can also be used as the target to aim for the award.
